Research at Paul L. Foster School of Medicine

Patrick Tarwater directs the Data Center for Integrated Preclinical and Clinical Programs for NIH-sponsored HIV microbicide research. In addition, he collaborates as Principal Biostatistician with investigators conducting HIV associated neurodegenerative disease using an SIV/macaque model.

Premlata Shankar is interested in developing RNA interference (RNAi)-based treatment methods for HIV infection and understanding why HIV-infected individuals eventually fail to control the virus despite possessing a large number of virus-specific killer CD8 T cells.

Manjunath N. Swamy is currently testing the therapeutic applicability of siRNAs to prevent and cure West Nile and St. Louis encephalitis viruses, including developing methods to achieve targeted delivery of siRNA to brain cells.
