Favorite thing about El Paso: It's closer to my home state, I love the warm weather, there's many outdoor activities to do, people are very friendly (except behind the wheel of a car), love the mix of people, great food, great area.
Why residency in El Paso? This residency looked like a great place to train because the residents were all super friendly and down to earth, the faculty were also just as friendly, the staff and hospital staff were described as awesome to work with, the new ED is awesome, the training is good, great patients, and the program produces good ED physicians.
Hobbies/Interests: Exercising/lifting, wrestling, rugby, bike riding (mountain and road), rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, boxing ... basically anything that gets your heart rate jacked and is fun to do!
Random Factoid: Nickname in med school = "Gametime." Was on a Latin dance team in undergrad.
Plans after residency: Perhaps a fellowship (many interests right now - ultrasound, toxicology, education, so we'll see), working either in the El Paso area or back home in California.

Undergrad: Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi
Graduate School:University of North Texas Health Science Center
Medical School: University of North Texas Health Science Center
Favorite thing about El Paso: Moving from the DFW Metroplex, I pictured El paso as a small city with tumble weeds. I was wrong, I am having a blast! Plus no tornadoes
Why residency in El Paso? El Paso is everything I wanted in a residency program. UMC is the only level 1 trauma center serving El Paso and Juarez ensuring a vast exposure to pathology and emergencies not seen in other parts of the country.
Hobbies/Interests: I love to surf (although hard to do in El Paso). I also love to bake, eat, shop, spending time with mi familia, sight seeing with my boyfriend, and playing with my cat, Nepo.
Random Factoid: In college my nickname was "shark bait." Probably because I mistook a shark for a dolphin one day while surfing. Nepo, my cat, got his name from my reading an "OPEN" sign backwards.
Plans after residency: I am also considering a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine. However, I know once you make plans, life has a different idea so I am always open to whatever comes my way.

Random Factoid: I love TV, everything from HGTV to "Doctor Who" and "Scrubs" reruns. I also check out "Entertainment Weekly" and IMDB.com more than any person you know.
