Graduate Medical Education Requirements

Selection is based on criteria which are not influenced by race, gender, age, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, or sexual orientation.

Prior to accepting an applicant, the program director shall ensure that the applicant has passed USMLE/COMLEX Step 1 & Step 2, both components (as applicable), Clinical Skills & Clinical Knowledge. Also note that all PGY-2s must pass Step 3 to be promoted to the next level of training.

Ranking and selection of applicants is made on the basis of information contained in the application form, medical school transcript, medical school performance evaluation (or dean's letter), and letters of recommendation. Other factors are preparedness, communication skills, motivation and integrity. Personal interviews are required for all programs.

Applicants must also pass credentialing, including a criminal background check, as conducted by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso.
