Welcome to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the El Paso campus of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
Our mission here at the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is to educate our medical students and residents to become the next generation of high quality providers of women's health care. We will distinguish ourselves by providing the highest quality and safest patient care in a compassionate, patient centered, culturally sensitive model. Moreover, research that contributes to an expansion of our knowledge about the health of women on the US/Mexico border is an essential component of our cutting edge educational activities. All of these activities, Education, Patient care, and Research comprise the critical components of our mission.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Paul L Foster School of Medicine will be a place where learners and teachers want to come and stay. In addition, the department will possess a collaborative, respectful and trusting work environment while fostering a rich mentoring system. Our passion first and foremost is the care of our patients. The department will be recognized for its patient-centered focus in which patients are engaged as active partners in all aspects of care. This care will always be provided using an evidence-based, innovative approach to patient care and teaching, while maintaining cultural sensitivity to the community we serve. In order to accomplish our mission we must embrace the long-term vision of conducting cutting edge, basic, clinical and translational research. This research program must maintain the highest levels of scholarship, merit and integrity. We will actively support and guide faculty, fellows, staff and students in the conceptualization, implementation and completion of research. Lest we forget the first lesson in medicine, “do no harm “, we pride ourselves on the development and maintenance of a robust and comprehensive quality improvement system to continuously improve patient care. As part of our overall commitment to patient safety we will be recognized for our use of simulation in education at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The use of simulation will allow us to hone our skills in team communication, inter-professional teamwork and quality improvement allowing us to boast about our superior outcomes. The faculty, students, and leadership at Texas Tech Health Science Center, initially enticed by the opportunity to build a new medical school, will continue to be encouraged by the high quality innovative approaches embodied in the department and the renewal that comes from being a part of this innovative program dedicated serving the border community.
