Welcome to our Pediatric Residency Website! This is an exciting time for our program and we welcome you to explore the possibility of becoming part of our team. At TTUHSC-Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, our department is committed to training highly qualified and compassionate pediatric physicians. We offer a well-balanced educational program that supports the residents and their goals.
In addition, we offer a full range of clinical experience from general patient care, to highly specialized areas such as Hematology & Oncology and Allergy & Immunology. The program has been praised for its strong Pediatric Intensive Care and Neonatal Intensive Care/Intermediate Care Nursery experiences that are available to our residents. We serve a culturally and economically diverse patient population that spans two countries. This unique patient population allows our residents to see a wide variety of cases and diseases as well those that are unique to our region.
Our program prides itself on offering an excellent educational foundation filled with the rudiments of patient care; backed with the exposure to innovative approaches to medicine. In regards to our graduating residents, those who seek fellowship have gone on to subspecialty trainings at some of the most prominent programs in the nation. Residents who seek primary care positions after graduation are offered positions throughout the country. Many of our graduates become so devoted to the patient population and community that they choose to stay in El Paso. In fact many are now faculty at our program! Other distinctions of our program include: 24/7 hospitalist coverage, a longitudinal community experience, multiple subspecialty clinic exposure, advanced research opportunities, extensive and continual board review study, Spanish instruction, and post-training placement assistance. In addition, we are proud to announce our Border Health Track that was implemented in 2014.
Recognizing that residency is an important time for personal and professional growth, we provide opportunities for national conference attendance and research presentation appointments, community networking exposure, and philanthropic participation, all of which are geared towards supporting the development of our residents in training.
Affiliated with the community-based El Paso Children's Hospital as well as private hospitals in our community, our residency program offers a broad spectrum of experience and education that provides a strong setting for success. The establishment of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, the Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing, a state-of-the-art Research Center for Excellence and the Medical Center of the Americas are all integrated in the advancement of medicine in our community and beyond.
In addition to providing excellent pediatric healthcare, El Paso is a great place to live. Located at the western tip of Texas, El Paso is the largest international metroplex in the world and celebrates the rich and diverse cultures of the area. In 2011, El Paso was ranked #1 as the Safest City in the United States among cities with a population over 500,000. Continually our residents and faculty, who come from all parts of the world, state how El Paso and it's people are so friendly and welcoming as well as rich with culture and diversity.
Above all, our greatest assets are our people - our residents, faculty, administration, nurses and staff are all committed to bettering the lives of children. All are dedicated to patient care, education and our community.
