Department Computer Devices Support

TTUHSC El Paso IT supports Dell and Macintosh computers for institutional use. TTUHSC El Paso IT cannot guarantee that hardware purchased from other manufacturers will function correctly within the institutional environment.  Equipment purchased from other manufacturers will also require third party support for on-site repair services.

Before purchasing a new computer for use at TTUHSC El Paso, we highly recommend the following specifications to ensure your new computer meets or exceeds TTUHSC El Paso IT compatibility.

For special computing needs, please contact elp.helpdesk@ttuhsc.edu for assistance in purchasing computers and peripheral devices for institutional use.  The TTUHSC El Paso PC Technicians will perform a needs assessment/evaluation and provide a customized quote for products compatible with the TTUHSC Institutional environment. All computer quotes must be approved prior to purchase in order to comply with IT computer specifications.

TTUHSC El Paso IT will perform warranty repair on select institutional approved products tagged by TTUHSC El Paso Property Management.

DESKTOPS (PC or Mac):

  • Processor:     Intel Core I5 or I7
  • Operating System:   Windows 7 (64bit) or Mac OS X 10.12 Sierra
  • Memory (RAM):   8 GB of RAM or greater
  • Storage:   1 TB SATA or SSD hard drive or greater
  • Video:   256 MB or greater graphics with dual monitor support
  • Network:   Built-in LAN
  • Monitor:   23" LCD monitor or larger
  • Optical Drive:   DVD+/-RW optical drive

Warranty: Dell PC - 3 yr. Pro Support, Dell 3 yr. Accidental Damage, and 3 yr. Keep your hard drive. Mac - Apple Care Protection Plan.

Important Note:
Windows 7 Enterprise is the only supported Windows operating system for institutional desktop computers. Windows 10 will be coming soon. Please contact TTUHSC El Paso IT, elp.helpdesk@ttuhsc.edu if you have any questions.

  • Memory (RAM):   8 GB RAM or greater
  • Storage:   320 GB SATA or SSD hard drive or greater
  • Graphics:   256 MB Video Memory or greater (Intel HD, AMD, or Nvidia Graphics)
  • Wireless Ethernet:   802.11 a/g/n built-in wireless
  • Network:   Built-in LAN (10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet) *if equipped with built-in Ethernet port otherwise you must purchase a USB to Ethernet adapter for PC’s or USB C or Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter for Mac.
  • Optical Drive:   DVD+/-RW optical drive

Important Note Regarding Apple Mac Desktop and Laptop Computers:

Windows 7 Enterprise is the standard supported operating system for institutional computers with Windows 10 an alternative for laptops or tablets with touch screen functionality.

Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite and Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan are the only supported Mac operating systems for institutional Apple Mac computers.   Versions older than 10.10 are no longer supported or are not compatible within the TTUHSC El Paso enterprise environment.
