Conference Overview and Objectives:

The conference on clinical simulation is designed for physicians, advance practice nurses, physician assistants, registered nurses, residents, students, and other interested healthcare practitioners. The conference will provide opportunities for participants to examine current health care issues and enhance their clinical skills through hands on training with experts in a state-of –the –art –clinical simulation setting.

Course Objectives:

Following the activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Discuss the magnitude and consequences of medical errors
  • Analyze areas of deficiency in his or her knowledge, clinical skills, and practice behaviors
  • Apply new strategies to the daily practice of medicine in order to reduce medical errors and improve the delivery of clinical care services
  • Provide safe, accurate, and optimal clinical care
  • Communicate effectively with other members of the healthcare team
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing clinical procedures

CME Accreditation:

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, Center for Advanced Teaching and Assessment in Clinical Simulation (ATACS) and University Medical Center of El Paso. Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation:

This Activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.  

UMC Accreditation Statement:

University Medical Center of El Paso is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Nurses will be required to complete an online evaluation form for each day of the conference and sessions attended in order to receive Continuing Nursing Education contact hours.

Abstract Submission Announcement:

As part of the 3rd Annual Clinical Simulation Conference, there will be an abstract session on Thursday, October 8, 2015, in the afternoon (12:00 to 5:00 pm).  The abstract session is dedicated for innovations in medical education, patient care, clinical simulation or patient safety.

The top-ranked oral presenter will be awarded $500.00 and the top-ranked poster presenter will be awarded $250.00.  The recipients will be required to be present during the award ceremony that will take place on Friday, October 9, 2015.
