Conference Overview and Objectives:

This conference, designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, medical trainees and trainers, residents, students, sonography technicians and other interested healthcare practitioners, is to provide opportunities for participants to examine current issues in clinical competency in medical training and practice. More importantly, participants will have hands on practice with experts and state of the art clinical simulators in developing and assessing essential clinical competence.

Course Objectives:

Following the activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Discuss the magnitude and consequences of medical errors
  • Analyze areas of deficiency in his or her knowledge, clinical skills, and practice behaviors
  • Apply new strategies to the daily practice of medicine in order to reduce medical errors and improve the delivery of clinical care services
  • Provide safe, accurate, and optimal clinical care
  • Communicate effectively with other members of the healthcare team
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing clinical procedures

Continuing Education Credit

CME Accreditation

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, Center for Advanced Teaching and Assessment in Clinical Simulation (ATACS) and University Medical Center of El Paso. Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 12.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurse Accreditation and Credit

University Medical Center of El Paso is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited provider by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

University Medical Center of El Paso will award up to 11.99 contact hours for completion of this educational activity, Day 1 up to 0.50 continuing nursing education contact hours, Day 2 up to 7.33 continuing nursing education contact hours, and Day 3 up to 4.16 continuing nursing education contact hours.

Nurses will be required to complete an online evaluation form for each day of the conference and sessions attended in order to receive Continuing Nursing Education contact hours

Registration forms for this conference must be received in the CME office on or before October 7th, 2014. Registration forms accepted at the door will be assessed a $20.00 late fee.

All cancellations must be made in writing and received on or before October 3rd, 2014 and will be assessed a $20.00 processing fee. No refunds will be made after this date.
