Center for Advanced Teaching and Assessment in Clinical Simulation - ATACS

  • The Center for Advanced Teaching and Assessment in Clinical Simulation (ATACS) is an integral component of Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, the only medical school in Texas that has an accredited clinical simulation by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare(SSH).
  • Medical Skills Course (MSC), the practice component of the PLFSOM curriculum, is conducted exclusively at ATACS. Practicing the 140 clinical presentations taught in the Scientific Principles of Medicine (SPM), students spend 2 hours of MSC weekly during the first two years.
  • Different from many clinical simulation centers in the US, the Center for Advanced Teaching and Assessment in Clinical Simulation (ATACS) has its own division of Research-Development in Clinical Simulation (RDCS) to support ATACS in achieving its mission and expand its leading role in the area of clinical simulation.
  • The state of the art ATACS Center is available to Texas Tech and non-Texas Tech customers for a service-fee. We offer a wide variety of educational training and programs to improve your or your staffs clinical skills through the use of our standardized patients, low and high fidelity simulators.
  • TACS has expanded its local service and impact in the field of clinical simulation to counseling of several regional, national and international delegations, leaders of medical education, healthcare centers, and the Veteran Affairs Medical Centers.
  • The TTUHSC Board of Regents approved ATACS as a Center within TTUHSC El Paso in September 2009. The Founding Dean appointed Dr. Hoi Ho as the Director of the ATACS Center. Assisting the Director are three Assistant Directors who supervise five full-time staff members.
