Community Faculty Development Program
The Office of Faculty Development has coordinated with the Office of Continuing Medical Education (CME), the Department of Medical Education and the Department of Family
Medicine in recruiting community physicians to serve as preceptors for PLFSOM medical students.
In view of the busy schedules of community based faculty and varying levels of participation and involvement, we have adopted a multi-pronged approach in preparing our community based voluntary faculty for their roles as preceptors. These include the following:
- Preparation of a 6 module faculty development program that is loaded on a flash drive and given to community based faculty members.
- Community faculty are also encouraged to participate free of charge in the full FDC program. Furthermore, the curriculum of this program is available online.
- We also provide to all faculty members, including volunteer faculty, with access to "Teaching Physician," a comprehensive web based resource which delivers videos, tips, answers to frequently asked questions, and links to in-depth information on precepting topics and with the opportunity to complete 14.5 CME credit hours.
