Michael J. Romano, M.D., MBA was appointed associate dean for clinical affairs in September, 2010. Mike was born and raised in New Jersey, did his undergraduate work at the University of Dallas, and then attended the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Houston, graduating with an M.D. in 1984. His internship and residency in pediatrics were performed at the Naval Regional Medical Center, San Diego, after which he served three years at the Naval Hospital, Okinawa, Japan. He served as chair of the department of pediatrics his final year in Okinawa.

Upon his return from Japan, he completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care at Baylor College of Medicine in 1993. He has worked in a variety of practice settings including military medicine, private practice and traditional academic positions, including five years in the department of pediatrics at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center where he won several departmental teaching awards. From Lubbock, he moved to West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, where he served as division head of pediatric critical care and medical director of a 19 bed PICU. While at WVU he obtained an MBA.

Mike left West Virginia to return to his adopted state of Texas in 2008, joining Scott & White in Temple, TX. There he served in a number of roles including vice chair and interim chair of the department of pediatrics in addition to managing a growing critical care service.

Mike is married to Martha Romano, a former therapist and El Paso native. They have two daughters, Christine and Claire.
