The Department of Neurology has a decade long track of providing excellent patient care and learning opportunities since its beginning on our campus in 1972. Our faculty and staff have dedicated themselves to the school's mission of fostering an environment in which our students are exposed to quality health care provided by some of the best practitioners in the area. We have focused on general neurology, epilepsy, and neuromuscular disorders and have recently added expertise in providing a quality stroke program in concert with the University Medical Center. We are proud of our excellent partnerships with outstanding local health care institutions, including University Medical Center, William Beaumont Army Hospital, El Paso Sleep Center, and the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Our scholarship programs have focused on clinical trials and case studies, and we have recently generated a partnership with the Center of Emphasis in Neurosciences to participate in neuro-genetics research. The department is looking forward to a future of growth and development in its areas of strength, while expanding in subspecialty neurology services, including stroke, neuro-critical care, and movement disorders, among others.
We have developed research projects that focus on early, preventive intervention in neurological disorders. A general neurology residency and stroke fellowship are being planned. We look forward to future decades of development that parallels the impressive growth of our campus since the mid 1970's, and to being part of a future in which El Paso and the U.S. border region continues unprecedented progress in the health care arena.
