Biography: Thomas M. Dykes, M.D., FACR, FSAR is the Dr. Arvin and Beverly RobinsonFurman Family Endowed Chair in the Department of Radiology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso. Prior to his appointment at TTUHSC El Paso, Dr. Dykes was the vice-chair for clinical affairs for 14 years at Penn State Health, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pennsylvania. Dr. Dykes also served in the United States Air Force for 21 years serving in numerous leadership capacities, including chief of diagnostic radiology, Wilford Hall Medical Center and radiology residency program director for the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium. Dr. Dykes retired from the Air Force at the rank of Colonel in 2005.
Dr. Dykes received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1984 where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed diagnostic radiology residency at the University of California San Francisco, San Francisco, California. He is certified by the American Board of Radiology and has served on numerous committees with the ABR receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award. He is currently the chair of the genitourinary exam committee for ongoing learning assessment (OLA) with the ABR. Dr. Dykes is also a fellow of the Society of Abdominal Radiology and fellow of the American College of Radiology, an honor achieved by only 10% of practicing radiologists. He serves as an alternate councilor for the Texas Radiological Society, the Texas chapter of the American College of Radiology.
Dr. Dykes has received training in leadership and management from the Radiology Leadership Institute (ACR), the Association of University Radiologists, Society of Chairs of Academic Radiology Departments, and the Harvard School of Public Health.
