Accelerated B.S.N. Program Admission Requirements

All applications are reviewed in an individual and holistic manner.  No single factor will determine a student's admission.  Academic criteria (cumulative GPA, grades earned in science courses, and failed/repeated courses) are important factors in admissions consideration.  Below are the academic admissions considerations for the Accelerated B.S.N. track:

Academic Admissions Considerations
  • For the overall and science GPAs, a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required to be considered for admission. All grades earned at all schools attended are calculated in the admissions GPA.
  • All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better prior to enrollment.
  • At the time the application is submitted, all applicants must have completed a minimum of 44 credit hours of the required prerequisite coursework (55 hours total), including all four (4) required lab science courses: Chemistry (4 hours), Anatomy and Physiology I (4 hours), Anatomy and Physiology II (4 hours) and Microbiology (4 hours).
  • The HESI Assessment Exam must be submitted with application. It is suggested to utilize the GGHSON Department ID when registering for the assessment. All sections required must be completed in one seating, and official scores must be dated within a calendar year from the date of submission. Click here: HESI Assessment Flyer for more information on our requirements.

Applicants who do not meet the minimum admissions requirements will not be reviewed.

All applicants who receive offers of admission will be required to consent to a criminal background check. A history of criminal conduct or convictions may result in withdrawal of the admission offer. See the Criminal Background Checks section of the GGHSON Student Handbook for the school policy.

In addition, the Board of Nurse Examiners has identified certain circumstances that may render a potential candidate ineligible for licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Texas. See the NCLEX-RN Examination Eligibility section of the GGHSON Catalog or access the BNE website at www.bon.state.tx.us for declaratory order information.
