Community-Based Education

For students

Desert Mountain AHEC provides health profession students with a real-life experience in community and rural settings with activities that include:

  • Partnering with universities and health profession training programs across the state.

  • Recruit preceptors.

  • Assisting students with selecting the community-based experience that meets their needs.

  • Providing opportunities to spend time in a community clinical setting, and to interface with multiple health disciplines.

For professionals

Our goal is to increase career satisfaction in health care professionals by providing technical assistance and free, low-cost continuing opportunities.

Activities include

  • Surveying health care professionals and facilities to determine continuing education needs.

  • Organizing continuing education programs for community health workers (promotoras) to meet identified needs.

  • Promoting and assisting with the continuing education events sponsored by our affiliated partners.

  • Providing information about available resources to health care providers from rural and underserved areas.

  • Partnering with public health and other community agencies to disseminate information related to physical, behavioral – emotional , mental health and public health issues.
