Mental Health First Aid Certification

Desert Mountain AHEC at TTUHSC El Paso is committed to providing continuing education opportunities to students and professionals to address our community health care needs and the AHEC Scholars Program is no exception. As part of the online curriculum and rotation hours that our multidisciplinary group of students need to complete, the students receive additional trainings/certifications that complement and enrich their education as future professionals in the health care field.

The Mental Health First Aid Certification introduces students to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems like anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia; builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common treatments. This course also uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect persons to professional, peer and social supports as well as self-help resources.

We are proud of our AHEC Scholars who recently completed their Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Certification! Also, kudos to our Community Based Education Coordinator Edgar Fuentes for his commitment!
