Dear TTUHSC El Paso family,
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso continues to monitor the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). TTUHSC El Paso leadership is working closely with public health officials to keep up to date on the disease and its potential impacts to our community. Additionally, all Texas Tech component institutions have been advised to update travel policies. While there are no reported COVID-19 infections in our area, your health is our top priority. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, TTUHSC El Paso is updating the travel notice issued last week.
All university-related international travel by students, staff, and faculty will be suspended effective now through April 30, 2020.
From now through March 31, 2020, nonessential, work-related domestic travel will be halted. Essential work-related travel must be approved by the President, even if previously approved by the traveler’s supervisor. Employees commuting between Ciudad Juárez and El Paso are not affected.
Requests for travel between March 9, 2020 and March 31, 2020 that have already been approved by the traveler’s supervisor and submitted through our Travel System should be made by emailing PresidentELP@ttuhsc.edu.
Any employee who has already booked travel should make every effort to obtain a refund for all related costs. Travel advances and airline credits issued to the traveler will follow standard procedures in HSCEP OP 79.05. The Travel Office, in conjunction with the President’s Office, will work to ensure employees are reimbursed for nonrefundable amounts.
Visitors to Campus
Departments must notify the President’s Office of any international visitors to campus for visits occurring through April 30, 2020. If your guests are visiting from a country with a CDC Travel Warning of Level 3 or higher, they may be required to self-isolate for 14 days. Level 3 countries can be found at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/index.html. It would be advisable to discourage such visits. Please send information about international visitors to PresidentELP@ttuhsc.edu.
Students, faculty and staff who travel – whether for personal or university business – outside of the United States are required to notify the university regarding that travel before leaving or immediately upon return. If the travel was to a country classified as Level 3, travelers will be required to self-isolate off campus for 14 days before returning to campus. Self-disclosure can be made via email to PresidentELP@ttuhsc.edu.
We will continue to follow developments and provide information and recommendations to ensure the health and safety of our university community.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation.
