Centricity EMR Upgrade Issue Identified

Centricity Business underwent a major upgrade this past weekend. This upgrade also required us to upgrade the EMR system. During the test period, a delay was identified while printing prescriptions from the Meds button .

The delay occurs only when "Printing Prescriptions" NOT while sending "E-prescriptions".
The delay is triggered as follows:

        •            Start update

        •           Update medications using Med button

        •           If medications are updated and the prescribing method is "Print and give to the Patient".

Once the provider clicks on "Send/Print RX", new medications print outs will take approx. 30 seconds and refills approx. 70 seconds

The GE development team is currently working on this issue. In the meantime, the following alternatives have been identified for those prescriptions that need to be printed:

  • Use e-prescribe if possible. The only medications that cannot be prescribed electronically are controlled substances, and scripts which will be filled at VA or WBAMC

  • Use your paper pad

  • Use the refills button when possible

**These alternatives are temporary and should be used ONLY with prescriptions that need to be printed. We encourage you to use the e-prescribing method as much as possible

Due to some major features that are offered in new version of Centricity Business the upgrade cannot be delayed until this issue is resolved in EMR. The TTUHSC Leadership Team is aware of this matter and they have instructed both teams: Centricity Business and EMR to move forward with the upgrade. In the meantime, we will continue working with GE to find a resolution as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience. Re-sending prescriptions with corrections Tip of the Week

Once the prescription is sent, it can’t be cancelled, what you can do is to include a note to the Pharmacy in the new prescription. Make sure to enter the information in the Note to Pharmacy field and not the comments fields.
