Fellowship Program

Fellowship program details:  This is a 12-month, non-ACGME accredited program for board eligible or board certified emergency medicine physicians.

  • One fellow will be accepted annually; this is subject to change by year.
  • PGY-4 position, $61k salary with opportunities for internal moonlighting.
  • Fellow will attend the local community college Basic Peace Officer course to obtain full law enforcement credentials.

-Upon completion of the Basic Peace Officer course, the fellow will spend time attending SWAT training with law enforcement agencies (schedule will vary per agency); may provide primary response to all SWAT callouts; develop medical training programs for law enforcement officers; and work on research projects relevant to the fellow’s interests.

  • Fellow will be provided the opportunity to attend courses such as: CONTOMS EMT-Tactical, EMT-T Advanced, and Tactical Medical Director; Basic SWAT, Advanced Hazmat Life Support, and additional courses such as Advanced SWAT, Breaching, CQB, and Incident Command as available and according to the fellow's interests.
  • Fellow will attend Tactical Medicine didactics.
  • Clinical Responsibility:

-The fellow in this program will have a core clinical commitment of 40 hours per month (480 hours per academic year) in the Emergency Department at University Medical Center of El Paso, the only Level I Trauma Center within a 280-mile radius. Will function as an attending physician supervising residents.
