PUDF Research Data

Dear Faculty Member,

The Office of Faculty Development is pleased to announce the availability of a large hospital inpatient discharge database to facilitate your research and scholarly publishing goals. The database is the Texas Inpatient Public Use Data File (PUDF) covering the years 2013 and 2014. While the 2013-14 PUDF does not contain data from military or Veterans Affairs hospitals it does contain millions of patient records from over 600 state-licensed hospitals across Texas. Diagnoses and procedures can be identified using ICD-9 codes. Limited patient demographic information are also found in the PUDF.

In order to request Texas PUDF data, please complete the following steps:

  1. Review instructions video



  2. Please make sure that you download and review the PUDF user manual for 2014, 2013 (click here)
  3. Download, print, and complete the Inpatient PUDF Order Form accordingly, which you can find Outpatient PUDF Order Form (click here)
  4. Once the form is filled out, please scan it, and email it to thcichelp@dshs.state.tx.us and ElPasoFacultyDevelopment@ttuhsc.edu
  5. Finally, submit a Faculty Development Request (click here)
