Combined Internal Medicine/Psychiatry Residency Program

Welcome to our Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Combined Internal Medicine/Psychiatry Residency Program. Our program was recently approved by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Our first set of residents is starting July 2016. The program is a five year residency that is designed to prepare graduates for diverse opportunities in internal medicine, psychiatry, combined practice, or fellowships in either field. After completion of the residency program, graduates will be eligible for board certification in both disciplines.

Our internal medicine and psychiatry categorical residency program has a long history of training excellent physicians who have taken up various clinical and leadership positions in the profession across the United States. Both divisions are academically strong and provide unwavering support for our med-psych program. The border city of El Paso is a pleasant, predominantly Hispanic, busy community that makes our programs very unique with transcultural medicine and psychiatry.

The curriculum for the residency is spread over five years with equal time devoted to medicine and psychiatry through didactics, case conferences, and weekly journal article discussions during which residents enjoy friendly interaction with faculty. Topics for medicine/psychiatry seminars emphasize issues at the interface of both fields. In addition, residents pursue research in internal medicine, psychiatry or areas at the interface of medicine and psychiatry, with faculty mentors.
