Maria M Cotera is an Associate Director for Curriculum Management at PLFSOM’s Office of Medical Education. She has been at PLFSOM for over 10 years, first at the Department of Family and Community Medicine managing a 4 year HRSA-Pre-Doctoral grant aimed at strengthening primary care based training in the medical school with the prospect of increasing recruitment and retention of primary care physicians in the El Paso area. After 3 years she was then hired by the Office of Medical Education under the Office of Assessment and Evaluation as Associate Director in charge of student course and faculty evaluations, where she managed curriculum data collection and reporting. Most recently, she was assigned Associate Director for Curriculum Management where her duties include, but are not limited to, managing and coordinating curriculum inventory on content, structure, delivery methods, mapping, and assessment; coordinating the periodical review of the curriculum review for accuracy of objectives and requirements; staying current with educational best practices and monitoring trends; provide faculty with data to assist in curriculum content review for horizontal and vertical integration threads.
Mari holds a Master’s degree in Literature and Languages with a concentration in Spanish, and she is certified in Research, Ethics, and Compliance Training by the CITY Program. She has over 25 year experience in education -Pre-K to University and College- curriculum development and management.
