Assistant Professor
Leslie Cortes, M.D., is an instructor in the Department of Pediatrics. She earned her medical degree from the De La Salle Health Sciences Institute in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, Philippines.
She completed her residency training at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, and chose to stay in El Paso to serve the children of the region. Dr. Cortes is passionate about preventive pediatrics and community health. Dr. Cortes provides prenatal visits and nursery care at The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus.

Assistant Professor
Sarah Zate, M.D., was born and raised in Reading, Pennsylvania. She earned her medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine and completed her residency training at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Following residency training, she completed a fellowship in child abuse and neglect at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She served 13 years on active duty in the U.S. Army. After falling in love with El Paso, she and her family decided to make it their permanent home. Dr. Zate's clinical interests includes care for children with complex medical conditions and their families. When she's not at work, she enjoys cooking, hiking, and time with her husband and children.
