What you like about the program: The residents are some of the warmest, helpful, caring, and friendliest people around.
The faculty are excellent – always willing to teach; our coordinator is welcoming
and fun; and the patients are wonderful teachers.
What you like about El Paso: The relaxed attitude, the mountains, especially the Thunderbird that dwells within
the formations and all the Southwest aesthetic; the proximity to Santa Fe where I
was proposed to, and the fact that our sweet dog, Maggie, was born here.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: I am what I love, and I love nourishing Spirit in all the infinite ways; some of
my favorites are practicing the healing arts, chasing my dog, laughing with my husband,
cuddling with my cat, nurturing friendships and family, making connections with people,
journaling, paying homage to Mother Earth, submerging myself in music while dancing
on the trampoline in the back yard, savoring meals, marveling at the written words
of the Greats, particularly the Queen of Language—Toni Morrison, and of course, shamanic
journeying meditations.

What you like about the program: One of the things I like about the program is the ability to work with the undeserved
population.
What you like about El Paso: What I enjoy about the city of El Paso is that it is a bigger city with lots of things
to do, without feeling like a big city.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: My future goal as a physician is to own a clinic with my fiancé, in which I will
work as a psychiatrist and he will work as an internist.

What you like about the program: Everyone in the department is supportive and passionate about teaching.
What you like about El Paso: I love the people – they are kind, welcoming, and know how to have a good time!
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: I’m hoping to do child or addiction Psychiatry. I am also interested in procedures
such as ECT and TMS therapies for refractory psychiatric disorders.

What you like about the program: I love the friendliness of the residents and the attending, as well as the population
we serve.
What you like about El Paso: El Paso is my hometown, so I am familiar with the people and the culture. I also
love the mountains!
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: For now, I am planning on staying in primary care. However, I am interested in geriatric
or palliative psychiatry.

What you like about the program: What I like about the Psychiatry program is that it provides mental health services
to the border community – a community that is multicultural and very unique.
What you like about El Paso: I love that El Paso is a city with warm, welcoming people, has very nice weather,
and a lot of outdoor activities to enjoy.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: I enjoy rock climbing, hiking, and reading on my free time.

What you like about the program: What I admire most about this program is the diversity of not only the residents
but the patients we work hard to serve. This experience is truly a melting pot of
cultures that is unique in itself to find.
What you like about El Paso: El Paso's warm weather always puts me in a good mood.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: I am passionate about community health and child and adolescent psychiatry particularly
managing children with autism. On my down time, I enjoy shopping for new clothes,
going to the movies, or planning my next get away vacation with my friends from undergrad.

What you like about the program: My interest in Psychiatry began as I believe that there is a gap between medical
health and mental health in the general population, and I would love to close that
gap.
What you like about El Paso: What I like most about El Paso is that it is an underserved area with a mixture of
two countries, and the kindness and hospitality of the people.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: My interest in Psychiatry include CAD and CL, and my career goal is to become an
empathetic Psychiatrist providing mental health care for underserved communities like
El Paso. Outside of medicine, I enjoy playing soccer, playing the piano, chess, and
“asar carne”.

What you like about the program: My favorite part about the program is the friendly culture and welcoming residents.
What you like about El Paso: I enjoy El Paso because of the low cost of living, the culture, the friendly people,
and the mild winters.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: My hobbies include board games, music, film, and enjoying the outdoors. I am still
exploring and open to the many possibilities after residency.

home.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: My interests are primarily in community psychiatry, child & adolescent, and psychotherapy.
I enjoy singing, gaming, TV/movies, and trivia.

What you like about El Paso: What I like about El Paso is the sense of community. It has that small town feel
in that way, but it’s big enough that there is plenty to do.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: My interest is in learning as much as I can to be able to care for underserved communities
of people of diverse backgrounds.

What you like about the program: This program feels like a community and we have each other’s back.
What you like about El Paso: I got interested in Psychiatry due to seeing patients with ADHD and ASD in Child
Psychiatry. That is why I am glad to be in El Paso, which has a Child Psychiatry program.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: I have come to realize that psychosis is interesting, and I want to continue learning
about it. During my off-time, I like to read fiction books, comics, and play chess.

What you like about the program: I really like the Faculty- they are very helpful and friendly. The residency is moderately
busy, which gives you the experience with the patients as well as time to study/research.
What you like about El Paso: El Paso is a great place to raise children. I personally love the weather and the
culture, plus there are a lot of hiking opportunities in the Franklin Mountains.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: I am interested in pursuing a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and
I am passionate about research in Autism.

What you like about the program: I like the diversity of faculty in different subspecialties in the field of Psychiatry,
as well as the research-driven mindset.
What you like about El Paso: This city is special on its own -- being a border town, I can relate to this culture
as I grew up in a town similar to here;the food and the people are amazing.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: I plan to join the Geriatric Psychiatry fellowship and bring dementia clinical trials
to this community, as well as create awareness of Alzheimer's dementia in the Hispanic
community.

What you like about the program: I feel very comfortable with the culture and environment of the program. Residents
play an active role in improving our training experience, our voices are always heard
and we have a lot of leadership opportunities. I also like the mentorship and wellness
emphasis.
What you like about El Paso: People in El Paso are kind and respectful, as a mother this is very important for
me. Mexican food, bilingual environment, beautiful mountains and warm weather.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: I would like to stay and practice in El Paso. Interests: Women's mental health, adult
ASD and ADHD.

Interests/Passion/Career Goals: I love to bake/cook, and travel. I am interested in working with children, consult-liaison,
and geriatrics. I have yet to decide what I would do after graduation – I guess where
life takes me!

What you like about the program: What I like about the program is that it gives you the inventiveness to choose which
track you are most interested in psychiatry according to your capabilities.
What you like about El Paso: What I like about El Paso is the warmth of its people, they are very welcoming and
respectful individuals who make you feel right at home no matter where you are from.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: My interest/ passion is to be an instrument to our community by providing effective
and efficient methods geared towards the wellbeing of every person’s mental health.

What you like about the program: I enjoy working with a diverse patient population in a variety of settings, such
as the outpatient clinics, VA, UMC, and the El Paso Psychiatric Center.
What you like about El Paso: Easy-going people, affordable, within driving distance of Ciudad Juarez.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: Spending time with mu daughter and wife, watching movies, survive COVID-19 pandemic.

What you like about the program: This program has an amazing faculty, residents, and staff, is incredibly supportive,
and gives its residents enough autonomy to make clinical decisions.
What you like about El Paso: I love El Paso for its people – very friendly, kind-hearted and welcoming. I have
formed friendships and connections here that will last me a lifetime.
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: I love immersing myself in different things – food, various cultures, travel, meeting
new people, etc. My goal is to become a Psychiatric Hospitalist and then eventually
have my own private practice.

What you like about the program: The program has a unique cultural aspect and geographical location due to its location
in border town. I was impressed by everybody’s friendliness and kindness during my
interview. Residents and fellows were happy and content with their training experiences.
Resident wellness is always the program’s priority.
What you like about El Paso: El Paso is family friendly town and a great place to raise children. The beauty of
the mountains is breath-taking with plenty of year-round outdoor activities. The cost
of living is much more affordable than other cities
Interests/Passion/Career Goals: I enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and swimming with my family. I am
interested in academic medicine. My future goal is to study several aspects of mood
disorders and incorporate innovative treatments into my practice.
