L. Frederick Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

Welcome to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) L. Frederick Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

The Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences provides a wealth of opportunities for students to develop their interests, along with a strong base of knowledge and experience to pursue successful careers in biomedical research and education.

The Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences offers the following:

Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences

The M.S. in Biomedical Sciences is a two-year graduate degree program. The first year of study provides foundational coursework in the biomedical sciences. During the second year, students are exposed to research experiences in a broad range of laboratories. Our scientists are studiously exploring the dynamics of many different health issues, including cancer cell biology, HIV, influenza, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program

The post-baccalaureate certificate program is a one-year program with a biomedical studies core curriculum. To be accepted into the post-baccalaureate certificate program, applicants must fulfill all the requirements for admission either to TTUHSC El Paso’s Foster School of Medicine or the Hunt School of Dental Medicine. Acceptance to the post-baccalaureate certificate program guarantees a one-time interview to the Foster School of Medicine or the Hunt School of Dental Medicine, depending on the track the applicant chooses. This one-time interview will be offered on successful completion of the certificate program.

Summer Accelerated Biomedical Research (SABR) Program

The SABR program is a 10-week paid internship. The program is an excellent educational opportunity with a commitment to fostering our interns' interest in science and research. The program is intended for undergraduate students who wish to gain more research experience before entering graduate school.
