Career Goals:I’m mostly deciding between general pediatrics and neonatology, but I like to keep an open mind.
One person I would like to meet and why: Probably Elon Musk because I’m a big fan of world-changing technology. I’d like to pick his brain about the medical field and maybe get some inspiration on how to improve it.
Something you would never guess about me is:I did missionary work in the Dominican Republic for 2 years.
Why you chose TTUHSC El Paso:El Paso felt like home and I immediately identified with the people. I felt like I’d have unique exposure to issues and pathology that would be hard to come by anywhere else. The staff and faculty also impressed me.

Hometown:San Salvador, El Salvador
Career Goals: Work as primary care pediatrician, and also I would love working in academics.
One person I would like to meet and why: My paternal grandfather. He played an important role in the post-war education reform in El Salvador, introducing and authoring the moral of ethics book that made a great impact on children education in my country.
Something you would never guess about me is:I jumped off a 45-foot cliff in Lake Havasu, Copper Canyon, Arizona.
Why you chose TTUHSC El Paso: I love all the learning opportunities the program has to offer, especially being so close to the border, you have a diversity of patients to take care. Also, you can feel the support and warmth of everyone working there, you immediately feel like home; in addition to the beautiful city of El Paso!

One person I'd like to meet and why:Alexander Pushkin, the greatest Russian poet, a genius who mastered a wide range of genres and created an "encyclopedia of Russian life."
Something you'd never guess about me is:I constantly took part in 10km running competitions during my medical school years.
Why you choose TTUHSC El Paso:There is the atmosphere of friendliness, warmth and kindness in the pediatric family. The program offers Level IV NICU experience, which is essential for my future career.

One person I would like to meet and why:Spider-Man (Peter Parker), so he can take me web-swinging.
Something you would never guess about me is:I do not know how to swim.
Why you chose TTUHSC El Paso: When I visited the hospital, I loved the atmosphere, the residents and the facility created around them.

Career Goals:I want to work as an outpatient pediatrician where I can form long-term relationships with my patients and their families. It would be rewarding to watch them grow from little babies!
One person I would like to meet and why: Duchess Meghan Markle, because she’s a real life princess who always uses her powerful influence for good!
Something you would never guess about me is:I love all music, but I’d have to say my favorite is oldies! My husband knows not to play “Name That Song” with me because I can name pretty much everything from the 60s onward. On the bright side, I’m the best asset for music trivia nights.
Why you chose TTUHSC El Paso:I chose TTUHSC El Paso because of the strong community-feel I experienced when I first visited. I always knew I wanted to come back to Texas after medical school and El Paso was a great fit!

Career Goals:I’m still undecided whether to go into fellowship or not. I do love working on the floor and am very interested in hospitalist medicine.
One person:I would love to meet and talk to Dr. Seuss. I am in awe of his writings, and I believe that his method of reaching kids was genius. Remember: "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
Something you would never guess about me: I’m very scared of dolphins. I don’t know why, they just freak me out.
Why I chose TTUHSC El Paso:When I first visited El Paso, I felt a deep connection to the people and community. The program also offers very unique opportunities only available in El Paso to learn and improve as a physician.

Career goals:My goal is to continue to train in a cardiology fellowship, though I am also very interested in a NICU fellowship. I enjoy teaching, so hopefully in the future I can be a part of a school faculty.
One person I’d meet:Carl Sagan. I'd love to sit down and talk to him about almost anything really, and I know I would learn so much. Through his writings he taught me about the value of humanity while thinking about how small the world is in comparison to the universe.
Something you would never guess about me:When I started college I thought I was going into a career in government and even got a degree in Political Science before I decided to go into medicine.
Why El Paso:I instantly knew El Paso was a wonderful place because of the weather, the people and the tranquility. The program is very strong academically, while being very concerned with the community, that I knew it would be a fantastic place to train, learn and grow as a physician.

Career goals:I would like to go into infectious diseases or pediatric nephrology.
One person I would like to meet and why:Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez, he was one of the first doctors in my country and was such an advocate that he was later beatified. People and physicians from my country have great faith in him.
Something you would never guess about me is:I can move my eyes very fast doing circles.
Why you chose TTUHSC El Paso:I love everything about border culture and this is a great place to learn from the diversity of the population. People here are very friendly and I really enjoy the food and music.

Career goals:Go into neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship.
One person I would like to meet and why:Dr. Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa, known also as “Dr. Q”. His personal story of how he became a neurosurgeon encouraged me and helped me to keep going during the moments I doubted I was going to make it to residency. He is an example of a hardworking immigrant that came to America to make this a better country.
Something you would never guess about me is:I have three children and it took me five years to finish the STEPs.
Why you chose TTUHSC El Paso:The two main features that I was looking for in a residency program were a high-quality education and a friendly and supportive environment. Here, they exceeded my expectations. Furthermore, they offer the unique opportunity of serving the Hispanic community like nowhere else.

Career goals:I can see myself as a hospitalist, who will also be involved in child advocacy. I dream of founding a nonprofit organization or foundation that provides pediatric care to the underserved in my hometown.

Something you would never guess about me is: I recently discovered I love baking.
Why you chose TTUHSC El Paso: The fact that the program serves a diverse population and does not limit the service to patients only in the United States stole my heart. During my interview day I was able to feel the warmth of its people. I knew this is a place I will not only grow professionally from its outstanding faculty, but also as a person. I left convinced that I wanted to spend the next three years here.

Something you would never guess about me:I was a competitive figure skater, ballerina and captain of the girls' flag football team in high school!
Why you chose TTUHSC-El Paso:First off, I was totally blown away on my interview day. The border health program is so impressive – I was taught a Spanish healing nursery rhyme to use with patients, and I truly felt a connection with the faculty I met. As a child of immigrants, the Sun City is such a special place to train, give back and learn above and beyond.

Career goals:My main short-term career goal is to excel in proving the best health care possible to my pediatric population and to keep the little ones happy and healthy. My long-term aspiration is to continue a career as a pediatric hospitalist. However, I am open to the possibility to do a fellowship if I feel passionate about a specific specialty during my residency training.
One person I would like to meet and why:I’d love to meet the singer, actor and writer Ricky Martin. He is not only a fellow Puerto Rican but also, and more importantly, he is an inspiration. He has dedicated his life and career, causing an impact with his humanitarian work around the world. Not only advocating for the important matters of our country but also serving as a voice for minorities.
Something you would never guess about me is:Everyone thinks I am a serious person, and while I am, I do love cracking jokes and being funny. My mom says I am funny! I believe her.
